Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to update you on progress made by the Government of the Northwest Territories' Sector Support Initiative for Non-Governmental Organizations.

In response to the 2023 External Advisory Committee report on Strengthening the Non-Profit and Charitable Sector, the GNWT has committed to building stronger relationships, cutting red tape, and making funding more reliable for NGOs.

Mr. Speaker, during the last sitting, I committed to keeping this Legislative Assembly informed about the steps our government is taking to support adult learning and community-based education in the wake of Aurora College’s decision to close Community Learning Centres earlier this year.

Today, I rise to share an important milestone in that work. Mr. Speaker, I am going to begin my update in Dene Zhatıé

Aujourd’hui, la ministre de la Santé et des Services sociaux a déposé devant l’Assemblée législative le Rapport annuel 2024-2025 de la directrice des services à l’enfance et à la famille (SEF).

« Après avoir soigneusement examiné les options qui s’offrent à lui, le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest a demandé une injonction visant à suspendre le processus d’interruption de service et a récemment obtenu l’autorisation d’interjeter appel de la décision de l’Office des transports du Canada (OTC) de rejeter sa plainte concernant la voie ferrée de la subdivision Meander River.

Mr. Speaker, today I would like to acknowledge the recent finalization of Master Service Agreements with Alberta Health Services. This is an important milestone. These agreements modernize our partnership, strengthening accountability for the essential supports and services delivered to NWT residents and funded by the GNWT.

Mr. Speaker, the Northwest Territories is at the heart of several transformative projects that are vital not only to our territory’s future, but to Canada’s strength, security, and prosperity.

Le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) élabore un règlement pour mettre en œuvre la Loi sur les ressources minérales (LRM) et sollicite les commentaires du public sur une première série d’objectifs stratégiques. Ceux-ci portent sur l’administration des ressources minérales (règles pour l’exploration, la mise en valeur et l’exploitation des mines), les carottes de forage et le déplacement de minéraux.

Il s’agit du premier de trois échanges avec le public prévus au cours des prochains mois sur les règlements liés à la LRM :

Le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) a publié le rapport sur ce que nous avons entendu concernant les échanges avec le public dans le cadre des Dialogues sur le budget 2025. Cette année, les échanges avec le public nous ont permis de réunir des résidents, des gouvernements autochtones, des administrations communautaires, des entreprises, des membres du secteur et des organisations non gouvernementales pour qu’ils puissent s’exprimer sur les décisions financières et le processus décisionnel du GTNO en la matière.

Mr. Speaker, yesterday the Auditor General of Canada released its report on the Performance Audit of Northwest Territories Housing. The Auditor General’s findings outline several areas where Housing NWT must improve how we provide residents most in need with equitable access to housing and supports through the Public Housing and Homeownership Programs.

Mr. Speaker, today I would like to share the meaningful progress we are making on Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action number 82, which calls upon provincial and territorial governments, in collaboration with Survivors, to commission and install a publicly accessible, highly visible, Residential Schools Monument in each capital city to honour Survivors and all the children who were lost to their families and communities.
