Live music performances at the museum

The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) and Music Teachers' Association of the Northwest Territories (MTANWT) will be hosting a series of monthly live music performances from October 2022 to May 2023.

These events are intended to provide a space for local music students of all ages to gather and enhance their experiences, and—most importantly—to have fun.

Our first two events will take place on Sunday, October 30, 2022 and Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 3:00pm at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre Café

GNWT releases report on history of NWT education facilities including residential schools, day schools and residences

To support the work of reconciliation and healing within Indigenous communities, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released a report that provides a summary of educational facilities, including residential schools, day schools and residences, in the Northwest Territories (NWT) from 1862 to 2021.

Minister Simpson and educations leaders meet for 2022-2023 school year update

The Honourable R.J. Simpson, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) met virtually with education leaders on October 4.

The Minister shared information with leaders about proposed updates to legislation, an upcoming territorial educators conference, plans to convene a Youth Advisory Committee on Education, and his priorities for the final year of the 19th Legislative Assembly.

GNWT releases timeline and implementation plan for renewed JK-12 school curriculum

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released its timeline and implementation plan for renewing the Northwest Territories (NWT) Junior Kindergarten (JK) to Grade 12 school curriculum.

After extensive research, consultation, analysis and engagement, it was announced in December 2021 that the GNWT is partnering with the British Columbia (BC) Ministry of Education to renew the NWT JK to 12 curriculum.

PWNHC celebrates 197th anniversary of the birth of hockey

The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) in partnership with Homebase and Communities Building Youth Futures (CBYF) will be hosting an afternoon hockey tournament for all ages to celebrate the first recorded hockey game in North America in Délı̨nę, Northwest Territories on October 20, 1825.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 1 p.m. in the PWNHC’s parking lot, followed by indoor and outdoor activities such as table-top and shinny hockey tournaments, prizes and hockey history!

No registration is required.

R.J. Simpson: Aurora College Transformation Update

Mr. Speaker, the transformation of Aurora College into a polytechnic university is often presented as one project, but it is in fact a collection of over 100 projects, spread over three phases.  The work has been a collaboration between Aurora College and the Government of the Northwest Territories, with wide-ranging and ongoing engagement throughout the process.

Early Learning and Child Care Scholarship now open to part-time and full-time students

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting scholarship applications from both part-time and full-time post-secondary students enrolled in early childhood development programs for the 2022-2023 school year. This is the first time that part-time students are eligible to apply.

 

Nomination deadline for NWT Literacy Awards extended to November 30, 2022

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the NWT Literacy Council are extending the nomination deadline for the annual NWT Ministerial Literacy Awards to November 30, 2022.

These awards honour the literacy achievements of youth and adult learners, exceptional educators, and organizations and businesses across the territory.
