The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting applications for the Indigenous Language Revitalization Scholarship.

Ten scholarships valued at $5,000 each will be awarded to eligible NWT students enrolled in certificate, diploma, degree programs, or other training that supports Indigenous language revitalization during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Priority will be given to NWT students enrolled in programs offered by accredited post-secondary institutions.

The application deadline is December 1, 2023, at 5 p.m.

In response to the rising cost of living, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will be issuing an increase for all recipients of the Senior Home Heating Subsidy for 2023-24. 

This one-time increase will provide an extra $65 to $175 per subsidy month depending on the community the senior lives in.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is making changes to its arts project and arts operational funding to better support the arts sector, especially artists and craftspeople in small communities, and arts organizations.

These changes apply to arts funding programs administered by the Department of Education, Culture and Employment, but funding and marketing programs provided by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment that support economic development will not change

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) committed to providing better supports to help residents develop greater financial security so that they can participate in community life and share in the opportunities available throughout the Northwest Territories (NWT). R.J. Simpson, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) has approved a request by Aurora College to begin the process to become a polytechnic university. He has also directed his department to initiate the quality assurance process with Campus Alberta Quality Council.

Access to skilled trades training and certification has improved, according to the final report on the Apprenticeship, Trade and Occupational Certification Strategy 2017-2022 (Strategy).

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking input on a post-secondary education institution application to deliver a diploma-granting program in the territory. Aurora College is applying to provide a General Studies Diploma program within the Northwest Territories starting September 2024. 

The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) is accepting submissions from NWT artists, craftspeople, curators, and groups to display their art in the Mezzanine Gallery art exhibit space in 2024.

The deadline for applications is August 30, 2023.
