Mr. Speaker, picture this: standing beneath the dancing aurora as the night sky comes alive; gliding across a pristine lake so still it mirrors the world above; or tracking the footsteps of generations before us along an ancient northern trail. This is the magic of the Northwest Territories; a land that captivates the soul and invites adventure-seekers from around the world. Tourism is not just an industry here; it is a gateway to our land, to our cultures, and to the people who call this place home.

Northwest Territories Film Rebate Program expands with updated guidelines and increased funding

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and Northwest Territories (NWT) Film Commission are proud to announce a significant expansion and enhancement of the NWT Film Rebate Program to support the continued growth of the territory’s film and media sector. Now in its ninth year, the program will receive an annual budget increase, growing from $100,000 in 2015 to $500,000 for 2024-2025, with a further increase to $1 million for the 2025-2026 fiscal year and beyond.

Fire Ban for Fort Simpson Territorial Park

Due to fire danger in the region, a fire ban has been put into effect for Fort Simpson Territorial Park, prohibiting open fires. The ban, which is in addition to any regional fire bans in place by NWT Fire, is effective immediately until August 16, 2024.

Camp stoves, enclosed BBQs and propane-fueled cooking and heating devices are permitted for use in NWT Parks. They must be placed within regulation fire pits and should not emit a flame more than 0.5 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres in height.
