The Inaugural Annual Report on the Northwest Territories Emergency Management System is now available

The first annual report on emergency management has been released. The report provides information on improvements to the emergency management system, and summarizes activities undertaken by the NWT Emergency Management Organization (EMO), between April 2024 to December 2025.

GNWT Releases New Flood Maps and Community Planning Guide

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is releasing new flood hazard and flood inundation maps for five of the ten communities at highest risk of river flooding in the Northwest Territories (NWT). Informed by community input, the latest available information on flood hazard areas, and the impacts of climate change, the new flood maps replace existing maps that were completed in the 1980s.

Call for Community Governments to apply for the Northwest Territories Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund

Over $74 million is available to community governments as part of the Northwest Territories Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund (NWT CHIF). The funding is intended for essential water, wastewater and solid waste projects to support new housing development in the Northwest Territories.

GNWT releases responses to the 2022 After-Action Review Recommendations

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released its formal response to the 2022 independent After-Action Review (AAR) of emergency response and recovery activities in relation to the flood in the Town of Hay River (HR) and Kátł’odeeche First Nation Reserve. These responses outline clear actions the GNWT will take to strengthen emergency preparedness and recovery from flooding for all flood risk communities across the Northwest Territories.

Scheduled Telecommunications Maintenance May Impact 9-1-1 and Other Services in Gamètì.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is advising residents of Gamètì that Northwestel will be conducting planned network maintenance on Friday, December 05, 2025, between 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. (MST).

During this maintenance window, some services may be disrupted for up to one hour. This disruption may impact local and long-distance telephone calling, 9-1-1, cellular and internet services.

Enterprise Set to Return to Local Governance Under One-Year Supervision

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is transitioning the Hamlet of Enterprise from Administration back to local governance under the oversight of a Municipal Supervisor. This decision follows significant progress in resolving the governance, financial, and operational issues that led to the community being placed under Administration on May 7, 2025.
