Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize and congratulate the participants who represented Team NT and the NWT Youth Ambassadors Program at the 2025 Canada Summer Games that were held in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, from August 8 to 24.

Mr. Speaker, the 2025 emergency season once again tested the strength and resilience of our territory. It showed the courage and dedication of those who step forward in times of crisis to protect residents and communities. It also reinforced that the changes and improvements we have made since 2023 are making a real difference in how we respond and recover.
The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is recognizing Fire Prevention Week™ from October 5 to 11, 2025. This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” emphasizes the importance of buying, charging, and recycling lithium-ion batteries safely.
Many of the devices we use every day, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, power and lawn tools, e-cigarettes, headphones, and toys, are powered by lithium-ion batteries. In fact, most rechargeable products rely on them.
After several seasons of major floods and wildfires, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is outlining the actions underway to strengthen emergency response and better protect residents and communities.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is inviting nominations for the 2025 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards.
The GNWT launched the Northwest Territories (NWT) Outstanding Volunteer Awards program in 1991 to recognize the great contributions volunteers make to the quality of life in the NWT.
Nominations are accepted in four categories: Youth (under 25), Individual (25-54), Elder (55+) and Group.
The Community of Fort Providence is advising residents that the Community has de-escalated the Evacuation Order to an Evacuation Notice due to a decreased fire risk at this time. The Evacuation Notice signals that there is still an active fire in the area and residents should keep informed by reading the updates issued by NWT Fire and the Hamlet of Fort Providence.

The Community of Fort Providence issued an evacuation order on August 31, 2025. This evacuation order remains in place. The Community of Fort Providence has also extended the state of local emergency. This needs to be renewed on a weekly basis once it is put in place and can be removed at any time by council.
