Residents are invited to join the Platinum Jubilee Celebration at the Ceremonial Circle, located behind the Joint Task Force North Building.

Passing of former Commissioner Daniel Marion

Premier Caroline Cochrane issued the following statement on the passing of former Commissioner Daniel Marion:

“I was sad to hear about the passing of Daniel Marion, former Commissioner to the Northwest Territories. Mr. Marion dedicated his life to improving the lives of residents in the Northwest Territories, supporting economic growth, and giving his time to make the communities he lived in a better place for everyone.

SCAM ALERT: Text Messages falsely claiming to be from the Government of the Northwest Territories

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) alerts the public to a text scam concerning a “COVID-19 response benefit from GNWT Economic Relief.”

Cybercriminals are sending fraudulent text messages alerting residents that they can claim a $750 COVID-19 response benefit and directing them to click on a link.

Do not click on any link in the message or share personal information. The GNWT will never ask you to provide, confirm or verify personal, login, or account information through text message. The GNWT won’t ask you via text message to click on a link.

Student Financial Assistance Deadline Approaching

Applications for Student Financial Assistance (SFA) are due by June 30, 2022.

Did you know that you don’t need to be accepted into a program or institution to apply for SFA?  Complete your application before the deadline to ensure it is processed for the start of the Fall semester.

Through SFA, the department of Education, Culture and Employment offers full-time and part-time financial assistance to NWT residents attending accredited, post-secondary institutions and programs to help supplement the cost of obtaining a post-secondary education.

Check against delivery

Good afternoon and thank you for inviting me to speak to you today. I’ve had a couple of brief media events in person over the last month but this is my first formal opportunity to join folks in a room for an event. There is a bit of synergy here: my role, in my view, is performed better when I am more connected to people and community and your industry connects people and communities so thank you for hopefully the first of many more opportunities to be back out in person connecting.
