Call for Applications for the 2022-2023 NGO Stabilization Fund

Shane Thompson, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), has announced the annual call for applications for the 2022-2023 NGO Stabilization Fund.

The NGO Stabilization Fund provides special funding intended to help NGOs stabilize or develop their capacity to manage the critical GNWT funded programs and services that they offer to the public.

Seeking Nominations for the Chairperson of the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Leadership Council

Minister of Health and Social Services, Julie Green, is seeking nominations for the role of Chairperson of the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services (NTHSSA) Leadership Council.

The Leadership Council is the territorial board of management for the NTHSSA. The Leadership Council provides overall leadership (advice, recommendations, and direction) to the NTHSSA.

Canada Road Safety Week is May 17-23

This week marks the beginning of Canada Road Safety Week, a 7-day national campaign aimed at making Canada's roads the safest in the world.

This annual awareness campaign is designed to increase public compliance with safe driving measures in order to save lives and reduce injuries on Canada’s roads. The focus of this campaign continues to be on the elimination of impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and driving without a seatbelt.

Proposed Changes to the Western Canada Lottery Act Regulations

The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) is proposing amendments to the Western Canada Lottery Act Regulations that will establish a minimum age of 18 years for the purchase of Western Canada Lottery products, and a minimum age of 16 years for the sale of these products. 
The GNWT, led by the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), is seeking feedback from NWT residents on these regulatory changes. This public engagement begins on May 17, 2022 and will conclude on June 13th, 2022.

Premier and Minister to visit Hay River and Kátł’odeeche First Nation to observe damage

Premier Caroline Cochrane and Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs Shane Thompson will visit the Town of Hay River and the Kátł’odeeche First Nation on Wednesday May 18, 2022. This will be an opportunity to meet with community leadership and get a first-hand account of the damage to homes, businesses, and other infrastructure in the area caused by recent flooding.

Engagement sessions for Great Bear River Bridge happening in the Sahtu region

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking input from communities in the Sahtu region about the Great Bear River Bridge project.

The two-lane bridge will be located at kilometre 938 of the future Mackenzie Valley Highway and will reduce environmental and safety risks associated with crossing the Mackenzie River ice road, extend the winter road season and improve access between communities.

Department of Lands and Department of Environment and Natural Resources to be combined effective April 1, 2023

Shane Thompson, Minister of Lands and Minister of Environment and Natural Resources announced today that effective April 1, 2023, the two departments will be amalgamated to form a single department.

This amalgamation is the next step in the evolution of the land and resource management functions and structures that were set up as a part of the 2014 Devolution Agreement. 

Have Your Say on the Yellowknife Airport 20-Year Master Plan

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking public input on the Yellowknife Airport 20-Year Master Plan. The GNWT is in the process of developing the 20-Year Master Plan that will promote growth and guide current and future airport development.

We invite you to visit GNWT’s Public Engagement website from May 17 to June 12, 2022 to provide feedback. Residents can find information on the 20-Year Master Plan, the two proposed options and complete the online survey.
