State of Emergency in the City of Yellowknife Extended

The Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Shane Thompson has extended the State of Emergency in the City of Yellowknife. This extension is being made under s.14 of the Emergency Management Act.

The extension continues through February 2, 2022.

This State of Emergency was initially instated to address the need for additional shelter space as a result of ongoing capacity limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Manufacturing Contribution Recipients Announced

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) Manufacturing Innovation and Technology Contribution.

As a dedicated action in the Northwest Territories Manufacturing Strategy (2019-2024), the Contribution is intended to support and encourage innovation in the NWT manufacturing sector by supporting research into existing and emerging technologies.

Public Health Emergency Extended Through February 1

Minister of Health and Social Services, Julie Green has extended the territory-wide Public Health Emergency under the Northwest Territories’ Public Health Act on the advice of Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) Dr. Kami Kandola, effective January 19, 2022.

The latest extension continues through February 1, 2022. 

The Public Health Emergency is required to continue to decisively respond to shifts in the NWT’s own public health situation, and maintain preventative measures.

What We Heard Report Released for Community Harvesters Assistance Program Review

Improvements reflecting the views of harvesters across the NWT are one step closer as the review of a critical support program moves forward. 

A What We Heard Report for the Community Harvesters Assistance Program (CHAP) review has been released – summarizing views gathered during engagement with harvesters, community members, Indigenous governments, Indigenous organizations, and others with a stake in the future of traditional harvesting in the NWT.

GNWT receives AA- credit rating from Fitch Ratings Inc.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has received an AA- credit rating from Fitch Ratings Inc. after being assessed for creditworthiness, debts and financial obligations. The Fitch AA- rating is a signal that the GNWT continues to manage its financial affairs in a responsible manner and gives the GNWT stronger scores for revenue stability, prudent fiscal management and debt.
