Mr. Speaker, the current invasion of Ukraine by Russia is a stark reminder of the importance of Arctic Sovereignty. We share a unique border with Russia, the Arctic Ocean. As the Arctic takes a more predominant role on the international stage, we want to ensure that the needs of Northerners remain a priority for Canada. It also means that the aspirations of Northerners be given appropriate attention and that we eliminate the gaps between northern and southern Canadians.

GNWT Offering Free Mental Wellness Subscription Boxes to NWT Youth

The Government of Northwest Territories is offering free mental wellness subscription boxes to NWT Youth. These boxes are being made available as part of the My Voice My Choice Campaign for Youth Wellness. The boxes include a variety of health and mental wellness resources, such as topic-specific materials, as well as individual and group activities such as colouring sheets and activity kits by northern-based artists. The boxes are available to youth and to organizations who work with youth.

Funding proposals are now being accepted for the Supporting Child Inclusion and Participation program

Yearly funding proposals are now being accepted for the Supporting Child Inclusion and Participation (SCIP) program. The funding is intended to reduce barriers and increase participation in early learning and child care programs for children from birth to six years of age with diverse needs. The deadline to apply is April 25, 2022, at 5 p.m.

GNWT, Gahcho Kué Mine, and Native Women’s Association of the NWT launch Women’s Pre-Trades Program

Building Forever: Women’s Pre-Trades Program is a partnership between the Government of the Northwest Territories, Gahcho Kué Mine (De Beers Group and Mountain Province Diamonds Inc.) and the Native Women’s Association of the Northwest Territories. This program will give women from the Northwest Territories (NWT) a paid opportunity to explore a career in a skilled trade.

Wek’èezhı̀ı Interim Boreal Caribou Range Plan Released

In collaboration with its co-management partners the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has put into place the first of five regional Boreal caribou range plans to support conservation and recovery efforts in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

Developed as a commitment under the environmental assessment for the Tłı̨chǫ All-Season Road and the NWT Boreal Caribou Recovery Strategy the interim plan incorporates Indigenous, local and scientific knowledge to identify which habitat is most important to Boreal caribou in the area.
