GNWT launches new apprenticeship support

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has launched a pilot program titled Build Your Skills, which provides formal essential skills assessments to identify foundational skill gaps in potential and current apprentices.

Through this pilot program, potential and current apprentices can access curriculum supports online and tools to build essential skills. Participation in Build Your Skills can help future apprentices prepare for the Trades Entrance Exam and help apprentices be successful in completing their technical training.

Have Your Say on Agriculture Funding in the NWT

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is partnering with the Government of Canada to develop its next agriculture funding policy framework.

Through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP), the GNWT will host engagements on various platforms until March 31, 2022.

The next five-year national policy for agricultural funding in the Northwest Territories (NWT) is currently under development with agriculture partners and stakeholders and will contribute to realizing the vision and goals of the NWT Agriculture Strategy.

Francophone Community Satisfaction Survey Now Open

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking feedback through the online Francophone Community Satisfaction Survey to help improve the GNWT’s offer and delivery of quality French language communications and services to the public.

Participation in the survey is anonymous and responses will remain confidential. To complete the survey, please click here.

The survey closes at 5 p.m. on February 28, 2022.

Waste Reduction and Recycling initiative Funding Available

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) is accepting applications for the Waste Reduction and Recycling Initiative.

This program provides up to $50,000 in financial assistance to NWT municipalities, Indigenous governments, Indigenous organizations, schools, non-profit organizations, businesses, and individuals to support projects that reduce waste, reuse materials and products, recycle materials (that are not already collected through an NWT recycling program), or recover a useful benefit from waste.

State of Emergency in the City of Yellowknife Extended

The Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Shane Thompson has extended the State of Emergency in the City of Yellowknife. This extension is being made under s.14 of the Emergency Management Act.

The extension continues through February 16, 2022.

This State of Emergency was initially instated to address the need for additional shelter space as a result of ongoing capacity limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
