The application deadline to showcase your artwork at the PWNHC has been extended

The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) is accepting submissions from NWT artists, craftspeople, curators, and groups to display their art in the Mezzanine Gallery art exhibit space in 2024.

The deadline for applications is January 15, 2024.

Submissions are evaluated by the Art Selection Committee, which is made up of PWNHC staff and community members. The PWNHC will pay artists a standard exhibition fee and cover shipping expenses.

Join a Social Assistance Appeal Committee in your region

The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking individuals from all regions to join Social Assistance Appeal Committees for three-year terms.

There are six regional Committees in the Northwest Territories. The Committees hear appeals from clients who disagree with decisions made by program staff regarding the Income Assistance program.

The Committees operate under the authority of the Social Assistance Act and may affirm, reverse, or vary a decision.

Call for Nominations for 2023 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards

The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) is announcing the annual notice of the nomination deadline for the Northwest Territories (NWT) Outstanding Volunteer Awards.  This year marks the 32nd year of these awards, which recognize and celebrate the remarkable contributions volunteers make in communities across the NWT.

Residents are encouraged to nominate an elder, youth, individual, or group volunteer in their communities.  This program acknowledges individuals who donate their time to improve the quality of life for NWT residents.  

Media blackout period during transition to 20th Legislative Assembly

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has entered a media blackout period that will run until December 8, 2023, spanning the time between the dissolution of the 19th Legislative Assembly and the appointment of members of the Executive Council for the next Assembly.

 

During this time, there are constraints on communication activities and media interviews. As there are no Regular Members of the Assembly to hold the Executive to account, Ministers’ decisions are restricted to matters that are routine, necessary, emergent, and non-controversial.

 

Changes coming to delivery of Child and Youth Counselling (CYC) services

Child and Youth Counselling (CYC) services have been revamped this school year to improve supports for students, youth and families in Northwest Territories (NWT) schools and communities. While students and families may see changes during the 2023-24 school year as the CYC service model changes, mental health services will still be available in schools and communities during this time. 

GNWT Announces Name for the Legacy Stanton Building

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) announced today that it has renamed the Legacy Stanton Building as the łıwegǫ̀atì (kle-wa-goon-tea) Building. This is the traditional Wılı̀ı̀deh yatı name for Frame Lake.

Between December 2022 and February 2023, the GNWT asked residents to submit their suggestions. The criteria included consideration for names that reflect the historical, cultural, and geographic significance of the NWT and to names that honour deceased persons who have made significant contributions to public life.

Funding available for community initiatives that address gender-based violence

Indigenous governments, community governments and non-government organizations are invited to apply for up to $125,000 for Gender-Based Violence Community Initiatives Funding to undertake community-based initiatives across the Northwest Territories that support the implementation of the National Action Plan to End Gender Based Violence.

 

Community-based and special projects eligible for funding must address one or more of the following objectives to:

 

New Vendor Performance Management policy to hold vendors accountable

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has introduced a new Vendor Performance Management Policy to help monitor performance and ensure that vendors fulfill their commitments to use NWT and local goods, services and labor when they are awarded government contracts.
