GNWT Releases COVID-19 Lessons Learned Report

Today in the Legislative Assembly, Premier Caroline Cochrane tabled a report summarizing the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) review of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The purpose of the review was to gather information and feedback to present policy advice and recommendations to improve preparedness for future public health emergencies. The review considered four aspects of the GNWT response:

GNWT releases An Alcohol Strategy for the Northwest Territories

Minister of Health and Social Services, Julie Green, released An Alcohol Strategy for the Northwest Territories today. The intent of the strategy is to reduce alcohol-related harm. Heavy or risky alcohol use is associated with chronic health problems, injuries, violence, lost productivity, criminal justice issues, family problems and premature death.

GNWT hosts Genuine Mackenzie Valley Fur Forum

On March 28-30, northern harvesters are invited to the Genuine Mackenzie Valley Fur forum (GMVF) at the Chief Drygeese Centre in Dettah.

This gathering brings together people involved in the NWT fur industry to exchange knowledge, discuss ways to support and enhance the GMVF program, and contribute to the growth and resilience of the northern traditional economy. Each day of the forum features a different theme: where we are now, where we are going, and how we get there.

GNWT and Aurora College to transfer administration of Scientists Act

On April 1, 2023 the Scientific Services Office and employees will be transferred to the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) from Aurora College. This transition ensures research licensing functions under the Scientists Act will continue to reside within the GNWT after Aurora College has fully transformed into an arm’s-length polytechnic university.

GNWT releases Work Plan for Improving Addictions Prevention and Recovery Services

Minister of Health and Social Services, Julie Green, released the Addictions Prevention and Recovery Services Work Plan this week. The work plan outlines how and what the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will do to build a strong continuum of coordinated and easily accessible addictions supports for all residents.
