Aurora College Transformation Critical Milestones Timeline Updated and Includes Degree Program Implementation Dates

In keeping with the commitment the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has made to ensure Northwest Territories (NWT) residents are kept informed during the transformation of Aurora College to a polytechnic university, NWT residents are advised that updates have been made to the critical milestone timeline for Aurora College Transformation.

2022 Minister’s Culture and Heritage Circle Award Recipients announced

The Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, R.J. Simpson congratulates the 2022 recipients of the Minister’s Culture and Heritage Circle Awards.

The Government of the Northwest Territories recognizes and celebrates the outstanding contributions made by individuals, groups, and organizations who work to strengthen the arts, cultures, heritage, and Indigenous languages of the Northwest Territories.

GNWT to participate in Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has joined the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot, which is designed to help employers in Canada connect with and hire skilled refugees overseas.

The GNWT has opted to participate in this pilot to give employers another option to address the realities of the labour market in the Northwest Territories (NWT) and Canada. Through the pilot, employers will be able to access a new pool of potential employees.

GNWT Premier and Ministers meet with Federal Government to advance health care funding negotiations

Members of Cabinet met yesterday with federal Ministers to discuss increases to federal health care funding.

Premier Caroline Cochrane was joined by Minister of Health and Social Services Julie Green and Minister of Finance Caroline Wawzonek in a meeting with federal Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities Dominic LeBlanc and federal Minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos.

Premier Cochrane announces change to the public service

Premier Caroline Cochrane has made the following change to senior management in the Northwest Territories public service.

Dr. Erin Kelly is appointed as Deputy Minister of the new Department of Environment and Climate Change, effective April 1, 2023. The Deputy Minister of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) since February 2020, Dr. Kelly played a key leadership role for the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) in bringing to successful conclusion negotiations to establish Thaidene Nëné and Ts’udé Nilįné Tuyeta.

Have your say on the NWT’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking input from Indigenous governments, Indigenous organizations, residential school survivors, including survivors of intergenerational trauma, and residents of the NWT to explore how to best acknowledge and support the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in future years.

GNWT releases final budget of the 19th Legislative Assembly

Today, Finance Minister Caroline Wawzonek presented the 2023-24 Budget, the final budget of the 19th Legislative Assembly.

Budget 2023-24 prioritizes initiatives already set in motion to ensure their sustainability and successful transition into the next Assembly. Improvements to the capital budgeting process, strengthened debt management policies and a projected operating surplus of $178 million will allow the Assembly to end in better financial shape than it began.
