GNWT releases draft action plan to address Calls for Justice on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls

Today, Caroline Wawzonek, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, tabled the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) draft action plan to address the Calls for Justice presented in Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG).

Tourism Licensing Renewal Fees Waived for Third Year Running

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has waived tourism renewal licensing fees for the third year in a row, as the global pandemic continues to impact the tourism industry.

Under the Tourism Act, all tourism operators providing commercial tourism activities in the Northwest Territories (NWT) are required to have a valid Tourism Operator Licence (TOL) with prescribed support documents including proof of insurance.

2021 Climate Action and Energy Reports Released

The Government of the Northwest Territories has taken action to address the climate crisis and make energy more secure, reliable, and sustainable in 2020-2021.

Progress is highlighted in four reports, which will be tabled in the legislature later today - Responding to Climate Change: Overview Report 2020-2021, NWT Climate Change Action Plan Report 2020-2021, Northwest Territories Energy Initiatives Report 2020-2021, and the NWT Carbon Tax Report 2020-2021.

The overview report summarizes the GNWT’s activities to address climate change.

Fred Henne Territorial Park Operators Receive 2021 Park Operator of the Year Award

The recipient of the Government of Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) 2021 Park Operator of the Year Award is Bottomline Events Planning, run by Lisa Tesar and Lona Collins.

This past summer, the GNWT’s Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) received substantial feedback from campers that the team at Fred Henne Territorial Campground operates a clean, safe and active campground, providing visitors of all ages with a variety of activities and experiences. 

Korea Aerospace Industries to conduct cold-weather testing at YZF

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), South Korea, will conduct cold-weather testing on their Light Armed Helicopter (LAH) at the Yellowknife Airport (YZF). Testing is expected to start on December 6, 2021, depending on weather conditions, and will continue until early February 2022.

The LAH is a military aircraft currently under development by KAI. It will arrive at YZF on Friday on a massive cargo aircraft, the Antonov 124. While the LAH is an armed aircraft, it will be tested without live munitions.

Tourism Marketing and Infrastructure Programs Open for Applications
