Early Childhood Infrastructure Funding now accepting proposals

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting proposals for the Early Childhood Infrastructure Fund (ECIF).  For the 2022-2023 fiscal year, $1M is available through Early Childhood Infrastructure Fund to provide non-profit organizations and Indigenous governments with funding for infrastructure repairs and retrofits to support the preservation, expansion and creation of centre-based child care spaces in communities across the Northwest Territories.

New Virtual Addictions Aftercare Program available to NWT Residents

The Department of Health and Social Services is expanding its suite of addictions treatment aftercare programs with a mobile phone app called Wagon to help support residents in their recovery journey.

The Wagon app provides an abstinence-based, online maintenance program that can be accessed following addictions treatment. The app is personalized for people’s unique needs and is backed by science to help them heal. It offers residents:

GNWT Launches Achievement in Business Competencies (Blue Seal) Program

As of August 27, residents holding a Northwest Territories (NWT) Journeyperson Certificate or a recognized trade certificate are eligible to apply for the Achievement in Business Competencies (Blue Seal) Program.

The Blue Seal Program is geared to individuals with a valid Journeyperson Certificate, Occupational Certificate, or another valid trade certificate recognized in the NWT who wish to develop their business skills.

NWT Public Service marks September 30 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today, the Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) issued an order to mark September 30th a holiday for the territory’s public service, commemorating the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Following the federal government’s lead, the GNWT established this holiday to provide public servants, including teachers, the opportunity to recommit to understanding the harmful legacy of residential schools in the Northwest Territories and to encourage them to take time to reflect and consider what they can do to advance reconciliation.

Diamonds de Canada Approved as NWT Diamond Manufacturer

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has approved Diamonds de Canada Ltd. as an Approved NWT Diamond Manufacturer (ANDM).

The agreement ensures that Diamonds de Canada has access to NWT-mined rough diamonds, and that their manufacturing activities, which include cutting and polishing, will occur in the NWT.  The company has entered into a monitoring agreement with the GNWT as required under the GNWT’s Diamond Policy Framework.

Diamonds de Canada is a new company led by diamond industry veterans Mr. Benjamin King and Mr. Michael Indelicato.

Girls in Trades workshop now open for registration

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and Skills Canada NWT are partnering to present a Girls in Trades Workshop.

The workshop is designed to provide opportunities forfemale students to explore the trades as a potential career path with the added bonus, of boosting their confidence, teaching life skills and empowering them as young women to pursue a career path largely dominated by men.

GNWT and UNW Reach Collective Agreement

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the Union of Northern Workers (UNW) are pleased to announce that they have ratified a new collective agreement.

 

This new agreement is effective April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2023.

 

Negotiations for a new collective agreement began on March 9, 2021 and ended on May 31, 2021 when both sides reached a tentative agreement.

 

The previous collective agreement between the UNW and the GNWT expired on March 31, 2021.

A draft interim range plan for boreal caribou in the Wek’èezhı̀ı region has been released for public comment.

This plan -- developed as a commitment under the environmental assessment for the Tłı̨chǫ All-Season Road -- incorporates Indigenous knowledge, lived experience, and scientific data to define which habitat is most important to caribou in the area.
