Thank you for coming – and for your interest in the NWT.  We recognize that competition for exploration and development dollars is strong.

It begs the question - how does the NWT expect to compete?  The answer to that question comes down to what we are calling the “NWT Difference”.

To understand our unique edge on mineral exploration and development, you first need to know two things.

The first thing you need to know is that the NWT has an extraordinary wealth of resources.

Mr. Speaker, nearly $1 billion of our economy comes from mining and exploration.  It is the primary generator of wealth in the Northwest Territories and the reason why our government has made the commitment in its mandate to support this sector.

Mr. Speaker, the Northwest Territories is just a bit different.

Just a bit different is the tagline of NWT Tourism’s new marketing campaign. It capitalizes on the unique northern realities that make our territory a special and spectacular travel destination.

As we continue to build our territory’s tourism industry, the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment is investing to maximize the economic growth and diversity that this sector can provide.

Yellowknife, le 28 février 2018— Les parcs des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (TNO) enregistrent une autre année record. En effet, les visites avec nuitée, qui s’élèvent à 35 050, ont augmenté de plus de 30 % par rapport à 2016, et représentent un chiffre 32 % plus élevé que la moyenne sur cinq ans.

Yellowknife, le 23 février 2018 – Le festival du film Dead North de cette année sera non seulement le théâtre des emblématiques prix zombear, mais aussi du tout premier prix de l’industrie décerné par le Bureau du cinéma des Territoires du Nord-Ouest.

Le prix du Bureau du cinéma pour le meilleur lieu de tournage ténois sera remis au réalisateur ayant choisi le lieu se distinguant le plus par son caractère unique, isolé ou captivant.

Yellowknife, le 15 février 2018 – Les demandes au titre du populaire programme d’encouragement aux activités minières du gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) sont maintenant acceptées pour l’exercice 2018-2019. La date limite pour présenter une demande est le 27 avril 2018.

Mr. Speaker, our government has committed in the mandate to diversifying the economy to create greater opportunities for our residents.   Our investment in the agriculture sector is part of this important work and we continue to make progress on this commitment.

Mr. Speaker, our government committed to providing support for mineral exploration and the mining sector, and to support the territorial vision of land and resource management in accordance with the Land Use and Sustainability Framework. The proposed Mineral Resources Act will be landmark, made-in-the-North legislation for our territory, and we are investing in its drafting with this degree of importance. 

Yellowknife, le 7 février 2018 – Une délégation de dirigeants des Territoires du Nord‑Ouest (TNO) a participé à une semaine de réunions et d’événements productifs alors qu’elle représentait le territoire à la conférence Roundup de 2018 sur l’exploration minière organisée à Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique.

YELLOWKNIFE, le 6 février 2018 – La ministre des Affaires municipales et communautaires, Caroline Cochrane, a adressé ses félicitations aux olympiens des TNO dans la déclaration suivante :

« En tant que ministre responsable des sports et des loisirs aux TNO, je tiens à féliciter les Ténois Brendan Green, Jesse Cockney et Kevin Koe, qui représenteront le Canada aux Jeux olympiques de 2018 en Corée du Sud.
