High Performance Athlete Grant Call For Applications

The Government of the Northwest Territories and Sport North Federation are calling for applications for the 2023-2024 High Performance Athlete Grant.

The High Performance Athlete Grant provides funding for high performance athletes from the Northwest Territories to assist with costs associated with training and competing in their chosen sport. The funding level for each recipient is based on athletic achievement and recognition at the national or international level.

Release of the NWT Active Living Framework 2023-2033

Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) Minister Shane Thompson is pleased to announce that he has approved the NWT Active Living Framework 2023-2033: A strategic approach to recreation, sport and physical activity. 

The NWT Active Living Framework 2023-2033 has been developed through fulsome engagement with the sport and recreation sector, and a broad group of organizations and individuals representing underserved or underrepresented portions of the population.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to announce that after several months of engagement and collaboration with territorial and regional sports organizations, the NWT Active Living Framework 2023-2033 has been approved.

The intention of the Framework is to guide the investment of public funds to support the development of recreation, sport and physical activity priorities for Northwest Territories residents. Work on the NWT Active Living Framework 2023-2033 began prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, following amendments to the Western Canada Lottery Act.

Extension of Hay River 2022 Flood Disaster Assistance Deadline

The deadline to submit final Disaster Assistance claims for those affected by the 2022 flood in Hay River has been extended to December 31, 2024.

It is critical that those who have been approved for disaster assistance resulting from the 2022 flood have their documentation in by the deadline so that their request can be processed. Pathfinders are available to assist you with your documentation or to answer any questions you may have.

Publishing of the Real Estate Agents’ Licensing Act What We Heard Report

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released a What We Heard Report on the 2023 review of the Real Estate Agents’ Licensing Act. The report includes a summary of feedback received during engagement with stakeholders and members of the public between February 27 and April 17, 2023.

Based on the feedback received, the GNWT has decided to move forward with a full legislative review of the Act in the 20th Legislative Assembly. Input from the engagement will inform the development of any legislative amendments.
