To help evacuees of Dettah, Ndilǫ, Yellowknife and the Ingraham Trail prepare to return home, pre-registration for Yellowknife re-entry flights is now available both online and over the phone.
Pre-registration is the first step in developing passenger lists for re-entry flights. From there, appropriate aircraft will be booked based on need in established flight hubs. Pending evacuation orders being downgraded to an evacuation alert, flights will depart as early as Wednesday, September 6 and continue for an estimated five days.
The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will be applying the Disaster Assistance Policy (DAP) for communities and surrounding areas in the Northwest Territories where widespread property or infrastructure damage has been experienced and recovery efforts are required. Specifically, these communities include: Behchokǫ̀; Enterprise; Fort Smith; Hay River; Kátł’odeeche First Nation; Yellowknife and Ndılǫ, potentially including the Ingraham Trail; Dettah; Jean Marie River; Kakisa; Wekweètı̀; and Sambaa k’e.
Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) Minister Shane Thompson has renewed the Territorial State of Emergency that was originally declared on August 15, 2023 due to the wildfire situation across multiple Northwest Territories (NWT) regions.
