GNWT is accepting applications for the 2023 Anti-Poverty Fund

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting applications for the 2023 Anti-Poverty Fund. The annual $1.75 million Fund can be used to support poverty reduction initiatives in Northwest Territories (NWT) communities.

NWT Indigenous governments and community governing authorities, as well as non-government organizations who demonstrate partnership or support from an Indigenous or community governing authority, may apply for funding.

New judge appointed to the Territorial Court of the NWT

Minister of Justice R.J. Simpson announced today the judicial appointment of Stephanie Whitecloud-Brass to the Territorial Court of the Northwest Territories. This appointment is effective as of December 13, 2022.

Ms. Whitecloud-Brass holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Regina and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan.  She was called to the bar in the Northwest Territories (NWT) in 2017.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) invites all residents to help with renaming the Legacy Stanton building. The Stanton name transferred to the new facility when it opened in 2019. Legacy Stanton is a temporary name for the building that previously housed Stanton Territorial Hospital. As the building's reopening approaches, it's time to give it an official name.

Have Your Say on policy intentions for the Mineral Resources Act

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released an overview of the policy intentions that will guide the drafting of regulations for the NWT Mineral Resources Act (MRA).    

An important next step in the development of regulations for the MRA, these policy intentions reflect the objectives and rationales agreed to by northern governments under the Legislative Development Protocol developed and adopted by the Intergovernmental Council of the NWT.

NWT Liquor and Cannabis Commission launches consumer survey

The Northwest Territories Liquor and Cannabis Commission (NTLCC) is seeking public feedback about NWT liquor stores, product pricing and selection, and NTLCC’s communication about the safe consumption of alcohol.

NTLCC invites NWT residents to share their thoughts by completing the online survey at https://haveyoursay.nwt-tno.ca/ntlcc-product-survey.

Survey results will help NTLCC identify how it can improve the overall customer experience in NWT liquor stores.
