GNWT announces additional support funding for tourism businesses

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is providing additional support funding for tourism operators and tourism related businesses with assistance from the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor).

The Northwest Territories’ (NWT) Tourism Restart Investment Program (TRIP) will provide one-time funding for eligible applicants to support:

NWT Arts Council now accepting funding proposals

Proposals are now being accepted for NWT Art Council funding for artists and organizations that are producing artistic works, projects, or events in the Northwest Territories (NWT) between April 2022 and March 2023.

Application deadline: October 31, 2021 at 5 p.m. (MST)

The maximum funding amount is $15,000 and funding must be spent by March 31, 2023. In response to COVID-19, proposals that include online presentations or showcases will be accepted.

City’s Yellowknife Community Arena to Act as Temporary Day and Overnight Shelter

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT), in conjunction with the Canadian Red Cross and the City of Yellowknife, is temporarily using the Yellowknife Community arena to provide essential day and overnight services to Yellowknife’s underhoused population.  This action was taken due to the significant number of COVID-19 cases within Yellowknife’s underhoused population and staff at the 50th street Day Shelter and Sobering Centre.

Working with residents to get back into their homes after the floods

Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs Shane Thompson issued the following statement providing an update on progress towards flood recovery in Fort Simpson and Jean Marie River:

“After thorough engagement with flood-affected residents in Fort Simpson and Jean Marie River, replacement homes will be delivered in early-2022.

“Our team has been on-the-ground working with flood-affected residents for months now. What they found was that to deliver on customizations that meet the long-term needs of residents, more time is needed.

Release of the NWT Arts Strategy 2021-2031

The NWT Arts Strategy 2021-2031 was released today by the departments of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) and Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI). The new strategy provides the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) with renewed priorities for the continued growth and prosperity of the creative sector for the next decade.

ECE and ITI work closely to support and promote artists and the arts in the Northwest Territories (NWT).
