Education Leaders focus on student supports, governance, and shared priorities for 2025–2026 school year

NWT Alert Testing

On November 19, 2025 at 1:55 pm MST, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will issue a live test of NWT Alert, the Northwest Territories (NWT) public alerting system. Residents may see and hear the public alert test on wireless devices, cable networks and radio stations across the NWT.

NWT Alert is the NWT’s public alerting system designed to keep our residents and visitors informed during emergencies. For important information during an emergency, check with your community government and visit www.NWTalert.ca.

Minister Lesa Semmler announces approved health infrastructure projects for 2026-2027

Lesa Semmler, Minister of Health and Social Services, released a media statement announcing the approved Infrastructure projects for 2026-2027.

“As Minister of Health and Social Services, I am happy that the Government of the Northwest Territories is moving forward with a series of health infrastructure projects that will improve access to care and support wellness in communities across our territory. In 2026–2027, the GNWT will invest over $37 million in health and social services capital projects, including new construction, upgrades, and equipment replacement.

NWT Nominee Program 2025 intake now closed

The Northwest Territories Nominee Program has closed its 2025 intake. The program has received enough applications to fill its nomination cap of 300 allocated by the Government of Canada.

Applicants will be notified by email if their applications will be assessed or withdrawn.

The Northwest Territories Nominee Program will reopen in 2026. An announcement with additional information will be made at a later date.

2025 population survey results released for the Bathurst and Bluenose-East Barren-Ground Caribou herds

The GNWT has released the new population estimate for the Bathurst and Bluenose-East barren-ground caribou herds. These estimates are based on calving ground surveys conducted in June 2025, combined with herd composition surveys completed in late October 2025.
