GNWT provides $3.6 million to support electric vehicle charging corridor

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is contributing an additional $3.6 million to support an electric vehicle (EV) charging corridor in the territory.

As committed to in the 2030 Energy Strategy, the $3.6 million will support the completion of a zero-emission corridor with the installation of Level 3 charging stations in Fort Providence, Enterprise, Hay River, Buffalo Junction and Fort Smith. Level 3 chargers can fully charge an EV in approximately half an hour.

2023-2024 Healthy Choices Fund recipients announced

Julie Green, Minister of Health and Social Services announced this year’s recipients of the Healthy Choices Fund.  Twenty-five organizations received funding to help them maximize the impact of health promotion and prevention activities that support individuals, families, and communities in making positive lifestyle choices.

Marine Transportation Services completes 2023 community resupply season

Marine Transportation Services (MTS) has completed its 2023 resupply season with deliveries of essential cargo and fuel to 11 Northern communities.

This was MTS’s seventh sailing season since the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) purchased marine assets from a previous operator in 2016 and formed MTS as a division under the Department of Infrastructure. This annual scheduled service provides cost-effective resupply to residents and businesses in communities on Great Slave Lake, Mackenzie River corridor and the Arctic Coast.

Winners of the 2022-23 "Drop the Pop" Campaign Announced

Today, Minister of Health and Social Services, Julie Green, revealed the winning schools of the 17th annual "Drop the Pop" campaign. The award recognizes exceptional efforts from 13 schools in six education districts within the Northwest Territories to promote healthier beverage choices.

Fourteen new bills receive assent in the last sitting of the 19th Legislative Assembly

Commissioner Margaret Thom granted assent to 14 new Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) bills on Friday, October 6, 2023.

The bills passed during this final sitting of the 19th Legislative Assembly cover a range of themes and issues important to the Northwest Territories (NWT), including the modernization of legislation for protection and management of forests,  comprehensive regulation of the nursing profession, updating outdated lien laws, and establishment of a carbon tax revenue sharing grant.

Housing NWT reduces reliance on leased units in public housing through Yellowknife’s Nordic Arms apartment building

Housing Northwest Territories (Housing NWT) is pleased to announce that tenants have started moving into the Nordic Arms apartment building in Yellowknife, with all tenants scheduled to move in by October 2023.
