Mr. Speaker, one year ago, I tabled the Mandate of the Northwest Territories, 2019-2023. The mandate document outlines the actions our government is taking to advance the 22 priorities established by this Legislative Assembly, and includes timelines and measures for tracking our progress.  The priorities reflect actions that the 19 of us agreed needed to be advanced, and we collectively developed them in recognition that these actions were needed to strenthen the social and economic status of the Northwest Territories.

Mr. Speaker, in March of each year, we celebrate social workers across Canada and in the NWT.  This year’s theme for Social Work Month is Social Workers are Essential.

Mr. Speaker, social workers play a vital role in supporting and maintaining individual, family and community well being across the Northwest Territories.  Social workers are trained to help people address personal and systemic barriers that negatively impact them realizing their full potential.

Mr. Speaker, one of the many exciting developments to expect as we get closer to launching the polytechnic university is increased capacity for Northern research. We know that the work underway, to increase the number of researchers and build effective research supports, for College partners and stakeholders across the Northwest Territories will serve as catalysts for Northern social and economic development.

Mr. Speaker, I would like to take this opportunity to announce the release of Living Well Together, the online Indigenous Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity Training program for employees of the Government of the Northwest Territories.

Le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) annonce la création du Fonds communautaire de prévention du suicide, une nouvelle initiative qui appuie les activités communautaires de prévention du suicide sur l’ensemble du territoire. Un montant total de 225 000 dollars sera attribué chaque année pour créer et mettre en œuvre des programmes culturellement adaptés et sûrs qui permettent de prévenir le suicide, d’accroître le bien-être de la communauté, et de réduire la stigmatisation.

Dans le cadre de son engagement au soutien des activités de prévention et de promotion de la santé, le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest est heureux d’annoncer qu’il accepte maintenant les demandes de financement au titre du Fonds pour les choix santé 2021-2022. Le montant total des fonds disponibles annuellement est de 400 000 $, le financement minimum est de 10 000 $ et le financement maximum est de 75 000 $ par année financière.
