Mr. Speaker, the NWT Association of Communities, or NWTAC, represents all 33 of the NWT’s incorporated communities. The NWTAC promotes the exchange of information among community governments, working together to reach collective goals for our communities across the NWT. Together they are an effective and passionate voice for community governments.

The Government of the Northwest Territories understands the critical role of communications as part of our pandemic response it helps create safer behaviors, greater community solidarity, and in the end, improved health outcomes.

Le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) verse des fonds complémentaires aux exploitants d’entreprise touristique qui ont épuisé les aides disponibles dans le cadre du Fonds de soutien aux entreprises du Nord (FSEN) et du Fonds d’aide et de relance régionale (FARR) du gouvernement fédéral.

Les exploitants d’entreprise touristique pourront faire une demande auprès du ministère de l’Industrie, du Tourisme et de l’Investissement pour couvrir les coûts d’exploitation fixes déterminés en vertu du FSEN.

Mr. Speaker, COVID-19 has affected us all and the pandemic has highlighted why meeting these mandate commitments are so important. As global supply chains have been disrupted and economic activity has been restricted, the need for locally sourced food has become even more valuable.

Northern harvesters and trappers have been deeply impacted by COVID-19. Their economic livelihoods have been affected, which is an important part of northern culture. That is why now, more than ever, we need to support harvesting and land-based programs.

Mr. Speaker, the Northwest Territories Power Corporation or NTPC provides an essential service to residents and businesses in the Northwest Territories. Without reliable electricity, many of the activities we take for granted, such as cooking, washing clothes or using our computers would be impossible. It is therefore critical that the Corporation maintains its assets to ensure that electricity is available when it is needed and that it is delivered at an affordable rate.

La ministre des Affaires municipales et communautaires Paulie Chinna a prolongé l’état d’urgence pour la ville de Yellowknife en vertu de l’article 14 de la Loi sur la gestion des urgences.

Cet état d’urgence se poursuivra jusqu’au 11 mars 2021.

Il a initialement été instauré pour répondre au besoin d’espace supplémentaire pour les sans-abri en raison des limites de capacité actuelles du refuge dues à la pandémie de COVID-19.
