Extended Health Benefits What We Heard report released by GNWT

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released the What We Heard: Proposed Changes to the Extended Health Benefits (EHB) Policy report.

From August 29 to November 23, 2022, the Department solicited input and feedback from the public and stakeholders on the proposed changes outlined in the discussion paper titled "Supplementary Health Benefit Policy Framework."

Of the responses collected, common themes included:

National Non-Smoking Week

January 15-21, 2023 is National Non-Smoking Week! This annual event provides education and information to prevent youth and young adults from starting to use tobacco products and helps existing tobacco consumers to quit or limit their intake.

Whether it’s tobacco, cannabis, or vaping, quitting is one of the best ways to improve your overall health. In just one puff of a cigarette, a smoker will inhale as many as 7,000 chemicals into their lungs. Many of the chemicals found in cigarettes, chewing tobacco or vaping products are bad for your health.

2022 Anti-Poverty Roundtable What We Heard Report released by GNWT

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released the What We Heard: 2022 Anti-Poverty Roundtable report.

This report summarizes the main discussions and themes surrounding housing and homelessness discussed during the Anti-Poverty Roundtable held May 3-4, 2022 in Yellowknife and virtually.

Some of the topics explored at this year’s event include:

GNWT is accepting applications for the 2023 Anti-Poverty Fund

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting applications for the 2023 Anti-Poverty Fund. The annual $1.75 million Fund can be used to support poverty reduction initiatives in Northwest Territories (NWT) communities.

NWT Indigenous governments and community governing authorities, as well as non-government organizations who demonstrate partnership or support from an Indigenous or community governing authority, may apply for funding.

Have Your Say on Renaming the Legacy Stanton Building

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) invites all residents to help with renaming the Legacy Stanton building. The Stanton name transferred to the new facility when it opened in 2019. Legacy Stanton is a temporary name for the building that previously housed Stanton Territorial Hospital. As the building's reopening approaches, it's time to give it an official name.
