Licensed family day homes to receive operating subsidies for their own children in program

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is enhancing the Early Childhood Program Operating Subsidy. As of April 1, 2023, licensed family day home operators are eligible to receive the Early Childhood Program Operating Subsidy for child care spaces filled by their own children between birth to 11 years of age.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking public feedback on the Employment Standards Act (Act).

The realities of work have changed since the last time the Act was comprehensively reviewed. A thorough review of the Act is needed to ensure efficiency, understanding and compliance, as well as to ensure that the legislation is on par with the minimum standards of employment in other Canadian jurisdictions.

Science North’s travelling exhibition to visit PWNHC

The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) and
Science North are pleased to present the highly interactive and entertaining travelling experience: Our Climate Quest: Small Steps to Big Change which will be on display at the museum from Saturday, May 6 to Sunday, May 21.

Admission to the Our Climate Quest exhibition is free and visitors can attend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.

National medals awarded to exemplary corrections staff in NWT

The Corrections Exemplary Service Medal, Canada’s highest honour for the corrections field, has been awarded to 21 employees of the NWT Corrections Service.

The Corrections Exemplary Service Medal is handed out on behalf of the Governor General of Canada to individuals working in corrections who have reached a long-service milestone in their career and who have exceeded expectations in work performance.

The medals were presented by the Honourable Margaret Thom, Commissioner of the Northwest Territories, during an evening reception on April 18, 2023.

Performing Artist Nadine Neema celebrates launch of audiobook at PWNHC

Join Montreal singer-songwriter Nadine Neema for the audiobook launch of her award-nominated Journal of a Travelling Girl on April 22, 2023, held at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC).

Journal of a Travelling Girl tells the story of an eleven-year-old girl’s journey by canoe through the ancestral lands of the Tłı̨chǫ people to attend the signing of the Tłı̨chǫ Agreement in 2005.  Along the way she gradually comes to understand and appreciate their culture and the significance of their fight for self-government.

GNWT informs public of privacy breach due to theft of Income Assistance Program personal information

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is informing the public of a privacy breach following a break-in that occurred in the department of Education, Culture and Employment’s (ECE) headquarters in Yellowknife. The break-in occurred on the first floor of the Yellowknife Lahm Ridge Tower building in the early morning hours of March 16, 2023 and items including computer hard drives were stolen.
