Have Your Say on Seasonal Time Change

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is asking the public to share their views on seasonal time change in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

NWT residents are invited to provide their feedback on whether they want to keep the twice-annual time change or permanently adopt a single time. The public engagement also asks NWT residents whether they would prefer Mountain Daylight Saving Time or Mountain Standard Time (if the time change were to end). The NWT currently observes Mountain Standard Time in the winter and Mountain Daylight Saving Time in the summer.

Advance funding now available for beaver castors

Harvesters and trappers are now able to capitalize on the demand for beaver castors in the global market. 

Under the Genuine Mackenzie Valley Fur program, trappers can be advanced $65 for each pound of dried beaver castors, or approximately eight dried castors. 

If the castors sell for more at auction, the trapper will receive the proceeds as well as a prime fur bonus. 

Appeals Process Added to Extended Health Benefits Policy

Effective today, the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Extended Health Benefits Policy has been amended to include an appeal process. An appeal process is critical to ensuring decisions are made fairly, and the Policy is applied consistently. Transparency plays an important role in being accountable to the public in the delivery of publicly-funded programs. This includes EHB applications.

2022-23 GNWT Budget Approved

The Members of the 19th Legislative Assembly have approved the Main Estimates for the 2022-23 fiscal year.

Initially presented on February 22, the Main Estimates proposed to spend $2.1 billion on programs and services in 2022-23. Over the past several weeks, Ministers and senior officials presented the individual budgets for each GNWT department and agency in the Legislative Assembly.

GNWT promotes NWT critical minerals, natural gas and ESG at Arctic Energy & Resource Symposium

As the territory positions itself to meet the energy and mineral needs of the future, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment, Caroline Wawzonek, spoke at the 21st annual Arctic Energy & Resource Symposium in Calgary, highlighting the GNWT’s work towards attracting environmental, social and governance (ESG) conscious investors and project developers.

GNWT Ending COVID-19 Public Health Emergency

As announced previously by Health and Social Services Minister Julie Green, the Public Health Emergency and associated public health orders will be lifted on Friday, April 1st at 12:00 a.m.

Throughout the pandemic, the Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) has implemented legally binding measures to protect residents of the NWT from COVID-19 and to swiftly respond to the evolving needs of the health care system. On April 1st, these measures will shift to recommendations and residents will make choices based on their own risk assessment.

Government of the Northwest Territories Calls On Residents to “Be Ready” For Emergencies With New Campaign

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) wants residents to be ready for emergencies when they happen. With spring flood and wildfire seasons approaching, the territorial government has launched a new campaign to help residents prepare.

A marketing campaign is being launched using radio, newspapers, community-focused print products, and social media advertising.

The campaign focuses on important things to know when preparing for emergencies, including: 

GNWT Offering Free Mental Wellness Subscription Boxes to NWT Youth

The Government of Northwest Territories is offering free mental wellness subscription boxes to NWT Youth. These boxes are being made available as part of the My Voice My Choice Campaign for Youth Wellness. The boxes include a variety of health and mental wellness resources, such as topic-specific materials, as well as individual and group activities such as colouring sheets and activity kits by northern-based artists. The boxes are available to youth and to organizations who work with youth.
