NWT Premier seeks shared economic, environmental and social priorities at international Arctic forum in Greenland

Northwest Territories Premier Caroline Cochrane joins an international gathering of key Northern leaders at the 2022 Arctic Circle Greenland Forum in Nuuk, Greenland, from August 27 to 29, 2022.

Subjects covered at the forum range from the Arctic’s growing geopolitical profile and Indigenous food innovation to the use of Big Data in tourism management. The forum will feature workshops on priority topics for the GNWT including Arctic security, sustainable economic and infrastructural development, accessible housing, and climate change mitigation.

2019-2021 NWT-British Columbia Bilateral Water Management Report Released

The Government of the Northwest Territories and the Government of British Columbia are pleased to report on initiatives undertaken between 2019 and 2021 related to implementation of the Northwest Territories-British Columbia Bilateral Water Management Agreement.

Through the Northwest Territories-British Columbia Bilateral Water Management Agreement, which focuses on the Liard and Petitot watersheds, both governments are committed to managing shared water resources in a way that maintains the ecological integrity of the aquatic ecosystem.

A What We Heard Report including results from the Northwest Territories Nurse Retention and Recruitment Survey 2021 are being released today by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT). The information gathered in this survey will help the GNWT understand its strengths, as well as where improvements can be made to address the current nursing shortage.

GNWT announces new formula to calculate and adjust NWT minimum wage

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is changing the way it calculates and adjusts the territory’s minimum wage.

Beginning September 1, 2023, the minimum wage will be adjusted annually using a formula based on the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Yellowknife and the percentage change in the average hourly wage (AHW) in the Northwest Territories (NWT) for the preceding calendar year.

NWT Indicators Dashboard to provide snapshot of progress on social and economic situation post-pandemic

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has launched the NWT Indicators Dashboard that provides a selection of key economic, environmental, and social indicators for the Northwest Territories (NWT).

The NWT Indicators Dashboard fulfills the GNWT’s commitment in the June 2022 update of Emerging Stronger to launch a dashboard of indicators to report regularly on the NWT’s social and economic situation.

Government of the Northwest Territories launches new online platform to support apprentices

A new pilot program launched by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will support apprentices who face challenges with formal learning, technical training, and exam preparation.

Virtual Learning Strategist (VLS) is an online learning platform that pairs each apprentice with a Learning Strategist. The Learning Strategist will work with the apprentice to identify challenges  such as skill gaps, learning disabilities, exam anxiety, and individual factors that could affect their performance..

FireSmartTM Starts in Your Backyard Contest Offers Chance To Win For Getting FireSmart

The “FireSmart Starts in Your Backyard” contest is back across the territory.

The contest is meant to encourage residents to practice FireSmart principles that will help reduce their risk of experiencing wildfire damage.

FireSmart principles are proven to work – taking simple, often inexpensive, steps can help protect homes and cabins from wildfires – even if a fire reaches the property.

All NWT residents and cabin owners are eligible to participate.
