GNWT Releases Polytechnic University Facilities Master Plan

The Polytechnic University Facilities Master Plan (FMP) was released today by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT).

The FMP is a comprehensive document that provides Northwest Territories (NWT) residents with a picture of what the future polytechnic university will look like. It includes proposals for infrastructure enhancements and expansions at all three campuses – Inuvik, Fort Smith and Yellowknife – and across a network of community learning centres.

GNWT launches Francophone Stream of the Northwest Territories Nominee Program

The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) now has a stream specifically for Francophone applicants. Prospective Francophone nominees can apply to the program themselves if they are currently employed by an NWT employer or live abroad but have a valid job offer from an NWT employer.

The NTNP will now have three streams: Employer-Driven, Business and Francophone.

Milestone achieved as wind turbine arrives in Inuvik

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and NT Energy are pleased to announce the wind turbine and other large components of the Inuvik Wind Project have arrived in Inuvik.

The arrival of the single 3.5-megawatt wind turbine is a major milestone for the project, which is a key initiative under the 2030 Energy Strategy and will reduce diesel consumption in the NWT’s largest diesel-powered community by 30 percent – offsetting diesel consumption in Inuvik by three million litres annually. Construction of the project began in January of 2022.

GNWT announces changes to Employer Driven Stream of Northwest Territories Nominee Program

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has modified the eligibility criteria and guidelines for the Employer Driven Stream of the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP). These changes provide more flexibility for employers and ensure the program and processes are user-friendly.

GNWT releases recommendations from the NWT Liquor Legislation Review

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released a report providing recommendations to improve NWT liquor legislation.

The department of Finance began a comprehensive multi-year review of the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) liquor legislation in 2020. The aim of the review was to identify how liquor laws can be modernized, streamlined and responsive to the needs of NWT residents. The review also aimed to improve laws related to the possession, consumption, sale and purchase, manufacture, importation, and distribution of liquor in the NWT.
