New Premier and Cabinet Stand With Mining Industry at Yellowknife Geoscience Forum

Premier Cochrane and her Cabinet colleagues left a clear message with the NWT mining and exploration sector last week, during the annual Geoscience Forum: increasing resource exploration and development is a priority.

Members of the Executive Council took advantage of numerous opportunities to speak and engage with delegates and visitors of the annual event. Their focus was on establishing relationships with industry and to hear ideas on how to advance the territory’s main economic driver over the term of the 19th Legislative Assembly.

Academic Advisory Council created to guide transformation of Aurora College

R. J. Simpson, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, addressed the inaugural meeting of the Aurora College Transformation Academic Advisory Council (Academic Advisory Council) earlier today. The Academic Advisory Council was created to support and advise the Associate Deputy Minister of Post-Secondary Education Renewal during the transformation of Aurora College to a polytechnic university.

Premier Cochrane appoints new Deputy Minister for the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment

Premier Caroline Cochrane today announced the appointment of Pamela Strand as the Deputy Minister for the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI).

Ms. Strand has over 20 years of senior corporate executive leadership experience within both the private and public business sector; she spent 5 years in progressive senior management roles, and has spent the past two and a half years as Assistant Deputy Minister for ITI.

Let’s Talk Tourism, NWT: Engagement on Next Tourism Strategy Begins

Building on strong investments and tangible growth across the Northwest Territories (NWT) Tourism sector, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now looking forward to the next five years of tourism development in the territory.

The GNWT, led by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) has begun public and stakeholder engagements on its Tourism 2025 strategy to succeed Tourism 2020: Opening our Spectacular Home to the World.

This will be the territory’s fourth consecutive five-year plan for tourism investment.

GNWT announces names of buildings in Fort Simpson, Inuvik and Yellowknife

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has announced the names for buildings in Fort Simpson, Inuvik and Yellowknife.

The office building in Fort Simpson at 9902 – 98th Avenue has been named the Chief Baptiste Cazon Building to honour the respected Fort Simpson Elder and Chief of the Łíídlįį Kų́ę́ First Nation from 1955 to 1974.

The office building at 106 Veteran’s Way in Inuvik has been named the Kigiaq Centre. This name, meaning “Beaver Centre”, and honours the traditional Inuvialuktun name for the area around Inuvik, Kigiaqvik, or “place of beavers.”
