The official groundbreaking ceremony was held today in Whatì, Northwest Territories for the Tłı̨chǫ All-Season Road (TASR) – a new 97-kilometre all-season road to Whatì from Highway 3 west of Behchokǫ̀.
Currently, Whatì is a fly-in community except for the months it is accessible by winter road.

The project will receive a total of $40 million to support environmental regulatory reviews and planning studies. Transport Canada will contribute $30 million under the National Trade Corridors Fund (NTCF) and the Government of the Northwest Territories will contribute $10 million.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) released its Waste Resource Management Strategy and Implementation Plan earlier today. The Strategy and Implementation Plan is the GNWT’s 10-year roadmap for improving the way that waste is managed throughout the NWT.

Alfred Moses, Minister Responsible for the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation (NWTHC) and for Addressing Homelessness, announced today the opening of a new 17 unit public housing building that will meet the need of residents looking for single occupancy rooms in Inuvik.
This new building was designed to replace the venerable Sydney Apartments. During the Housing Engagement Survey, the message was loud and clear that there was a need for single room occupancy units. This project will make 17 new and modern units available to meet that demand.
