Glen Abernethy, Minister of Health and Social Services announced this year’s recipients of $400,000 to support health promotion and prevention activities Through the Healthy Choices Fund. Twelve eligible organizations and community governments received funding to help maximize the impact of health promotion and prevention activities that support individuals, families, and communities in making healthy lifestyle choices.

Today, during the “Celebrate Healthy Living” event, the Departments of Health and Social Services and Municipal and Community Affairs launched the simple and interactive Carrot Rewards mobile app – one of the first mobile apps officially endorsed by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT). 

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is pleased to have received continued federal support for an ongoing collaboration with Natural Resources Canada - Canadian Forest Service that helps to monitor the state of NWT forests and better understand the impacts of climate change.

The Department of Health and Social Services released the 2018 NWT Community Counselling Program (CCP) Client Satisfaction Questionnaire Report.

The CCP Client Satisfaction Report for 2018 has shown that a majority of clients who responded were satisfied or very satisfied with their overall experience in accessing services, and that a majority of those who responded were satisfied with the changes in their lives since beginning counselling services.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released its 2030 NWT Climate Change Strategic Framework 2019-2023 Action Plan — the first of two five-year Action Plans to guide the implementation of the 2030 NWT Climate Change Strategic Framework.

Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, the Honourable Robert C. McLeod and Chair of the Standing Committee on Economic Development and the Environment, Mr. Cory Vanthuyne, are announcing today, that in the spirit of consensus government, an agreement has been reached to provide for the expedited review of Bill 38: Protected Areas Act during the May/June sitting of the Legislative Assembly.

Glen Abernethy, Minister of Health and Social Services, is announcing the government will invest $1 million this year to support local organizations in their efforts to reduce poverty.  Funding for forty seven proposals is being awarded to community and Indigenous organizations through the 2019/20 Anti-Poverty Fund.

As part of the NWT Land Use Planning Forum,  the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) released Finding Common Ground – a renewed commitment to regional land use planning in the Northwest Territories, earlier today. 

“Finding Common Ground” sets out how the GNWT and its Indigenous government and federal government partners will work together to help advance important and necessary land use plans for every region of the NWT. 

Last month, a report from expert Canadian scientists showed that Canada is warming at twice the global rate and that the North is warming at three times the global rate. People in the Northwest Territories are feeling the impacts of climate change in their communities. Canadians want to fight climate change, to be part of the solution, which is why Canada and the Northwest Territories are working together to reduce pollution, create good jobs, and support healthy communities.
