Julie Green: COVID-19 Health and Social Services Update

Mr. Speaker, today I am providing an update on easing public health restrictions as we move toward lifting the public health emergency on April 1st.  We have seen a steady decline in cases in the NWT since the mid-January peak after, but not before Omicron produced over three times the number of new COVID-19 infections compared to all previous waves of the virus combined in the NWT.

Le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) apporte des modifications aux arrêtés de santé publique actuels qui assoupliront les restrictions aux Territoires du Nord-Ouest (TNO).

À compter du 1er mars 2022, les restrictions sur les déplacements liées à l’auto-isolement seront assouplies, les restrictions concernant les rassemblements seront levées, et le programme de vaccination pour les commerces se terminera.

Mr. Speaker, Partnership is a theme I have spoken about many times since becoming the Minister Responsible for the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation. The reason for this is simple: the most effective way to address the housing crisis in the Northwest Territories, is by working in partnership with Indigenous governments, community governments, non-governmental organizations, and the Government of Canada.

Mr. Speaker, yesterday the world was thrust into uncertainty and turmoil as Russia launched an attack and subsequent invasion of Ukraine.

The Northwest Territories stands with Ukraine. The images coming out of the eastern European nation are horrifying. My heart goes out to those who are forced to flee their homes to find safety, and to those who have lost their lives in a senseless act of aggression by Russia.

La Société d’habitation des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (SHTNO) a fait l’annonce de son nouveau mandat, dans lequel s’inscrivent des énoncés de mission, de valeurs et de vision. Ce nouveau mandat, l’un des objectifs clés de la Stratégie de renouvellement de la Société d’habitation des Territoires du Nord-Ouest, tient compte du rôle de la SHTNO sur le plan du mieux-être social et ouvre la voie à la réalisation des prochaines étapes du renouvellement.

Mr. Speaker, “Let’s Go Fishing”. That is the theme of this year’s Indigenous Languages Month, which we celebrate every February, in partnership with Indigenous governments, and the Northwest Territories Literacy Council. To help everyone embrace this year’s celebration, we are sharing a delicious Fish Chowder recipe in all nine official Indigenous languages. Throughout February we continue to encourage residents to engage in the exciting activities in communities and schools to promote Indigenous language use.

Mr. Speaker, on November 24th I rose before this House to announce a strategy for renewal of the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation. A strategy that is focused on taking action to address the housing crisis in the Northwest Territories.  I am very pleased to rise again today to announce that, guided by the strategy, we are continuing to take action and set the stage for real, positive change.

Journée de l’industrie 2022 du GTNO

À l’occasion de sa Journée annuelle de l’industrie, le ministère de l’Infrastructure du gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) a publié sa présentation sur les dépenses d’immobilisations prévues pour l’exercice financier à venir.

Tous les ans, le GTNO organise la Journée de l’industrie. Il s’agit d’une occasion pour les entrepreneurs et les organismes qui souhaitent faire des affaires avec le GTNO de s’informer sur les projets d’immobilisations qui auront lieu durant le prochain exercice et les budgets qui leur sont prévus.
