Le ministère des Affaires municipales et communautaires (MAMC) lance un appel de demandes au titre du Fonds de stabilisation des ONG 2019-2020.

Le Fonds de stabilisation des ONG offre une aide financière particulière aux organisations non gouvernementales (ONG) qui fournissent au public des programmes ou des services de première nécessité financés par le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) afin de renforcer et d’accroître leur capacité de gestion.

Le 15 mars 2019, un incendie qui a ravagé l’immeuble à logements Mackenzie Place (aussi connu sous le nom du « Highrise » de Hay River) a créé des dommages importants au 11^e étage et aux étages inférieurs et a délogé environ 150 locataires. Depuis l’évacuation de l’immeuble, le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord‑Ouest (GTNO) travaille avec la Ville de Hay River pour soutenir les locataires évacués.

Mr. Speaker, community governments are an important partner for the Government of the Northwest Territories and we continue to be one of the only jurisdictions in Canada that provides ongoing funding to this level of government. While we recognize that community governments have many financial needs that exceed current funding levels, we remain committed to supporting them and have made considerable gains in closing the community government funding gap during the 18^th Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Speaker, municipal elections were held in nine hamlet communities in the Northwest Territories on December 10, 2018.  There were 71 candidates in total, vying for 46 available seats.  I am pleased with the large number of candidates, as this indicates there is keen interest in local government and that individuals want to serve as leaders and decision-makers for their community.

Mr. Speaker, over the past 15 years, the Government of the Northwest Territories has worked in partnership with the federal government to help meet the infrastructure needs of community governments.  These efforts have helped community governments access federal funding, in accordance with our current mandate commitment in this area.

Mr. Speaker, from January 16 to 17, 2019, the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs brought community government leaders together to discuss cannabis.  This was our first opportunity for such a gathering since cannabis became legal in Canada on October 17, 2018.

Mr. Speaker, from February 15 to March 3, 2019, athletes from the Northwest Territories will be representing our territory at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta.  This event is an important celebration of Canadian sport and culture.  It will be the largest event of its kind ever hosted in Red Deer and central Alberta and one of the largest in Alberta since the 1988 Calgary Olympics.

Il s’agit de la 29^e édition de ce prix, qui souligne et célèbre les contributions remarquables des bénévoles dans les collectivités des quatre coins des Territoires du Nord-Ouest.

Yellowknife, le 26 novembre 2018 – Le 28 novembre 2018, à 13 h 55, le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) procédera à un essai en temps réel du système En alerte TNO, le système d’alerte au public des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (TNO). Vous verrez et entendrez possiblement l’alerte au public sur les stations radiophoniques, les réseaux de câblodistribution et les appareils sans fil, partout aux TNO.

Mr. Speaker, six community governments in the Northwest Territories had an election on October 15^th, 2018. These elections took place for all of our communities with City, Town or Village status, including the City of Yellowknife, the Towns of Hay River, Fort Smith, Norman Wells and Inuvik and the Village of Fort Simpson.

There were 87 candidates in total, vying for 52 available seats. The large number of candidates shows that there is keen interest in the local level of government and that individuals want to serve as leaders and decision-makers for their community.
